Candidiasis / Candida / Yeast Infection / Fungal Infection / Thrush
Candidiasis is a general term for yeast infections, fungal infections and thrush most commonly caused by several species of Candida, the most predominant being Candida albicans.
Candida albicans is an organism most commonly found in humans, it popolates the gut, digestion, genitals, skin, throat and mouth and can be the cause of reflux, flatulence, bloating, indigestion, constipation, diarrhea, bad breath, brain fog, fungal skin rashes, thrush, urinary tract infections, ear infections, chronic sinus infections, fungal nail infections and disrupted energy levels. When opportunistic overgrowth of the candida bacteria becomes systemic this can cause prolific inflammation, chronic fatigue, immune suppression and tissue irritation and damage, including intestinal permeability more commonly known as leaky gut. As you can see with such a wide range of symptoms Candida is very hard to diagnose and treat. Candida infections are persistent and difficult to treat but not impossible.
For those not exhibiting visual signs of candida overgrowth like the typical skin rashes and thrush then specialized testing can be done to identify whether Candida albicands is the underlying culprit driving disease and disorder in the body.
Most people we see in our clinic have had prolonged treatment with anti-fungal and antibiotic medications being the only recommendation for thrush treatment and candida treatment. This can make symptoms worse as it forces Candida to adapt making it more resistant to those treatments without ever addressing the cause.
